Orwell Estuary & Orwell Country Park, Virtual Tour Suffolk
Description
To the east of Ipswich as the river Orwell heads out toward the sea, lies the Orwell Estuary. The estuary includes areas of mud flats, salt marsh and low cliffs offering a variety of habitats for birds and animals. Breeding Avocets can be found here in the summer while during winter large concentrations of waders can be found.
There are trails and walks on both sides of the river with the Orwell Country park and Bridge Wood on the Northern shore providing a popular location for days out and picnics in the summer, with it's free parking area and hilly wooded walks down to the shoreline.
Orwell Country Park was officially opened in 1995 and is currently approximately 200 Acres in size. The park is part of the "Suffolk Coast & Heaths Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty"
